Swimming Assistant Head Coach & Performance Squad Coach | Methodsit Ladies College

For over 18 years, Mel has provided her coaching expertise to Victoria through Nunawading Swimming Club, MLC Aquatic, and Swimming Victoria and Swimming Australia Performance Pathways. Over the course of her career Mel has cemented herself as a key contributor to the performance and participation of swimming in Victoria, and has filled crucial roles including Head Junior Coach at Nunawading Swimming Club, Assistant Head Coach at MLC Aquatic, and Lead Coach with various Swimming Victoria teams and trips, including Junior Talent, Marlins, Flippers, Tri-Series, and State teams.

Mel was selected as an Australian Deaf Team coach to attend the World Deaf Swimming Champs (Texas 2015) and Deaflympics (Samsun 2017) and has been recognised with Victorian Open Water coach of the Year (2014), and Victorian Age Group Special Coaching Achievement at Australian Age Championships (2020-21). More recently, Mel received a direct invite to join the W32 Project – Swimming Australia’s new development initiative designed to support and elevate elite women in coaching.

In addition, Mel gives back to our coaching community as a member of the sctaVIC committee and as a presenter of Development Coaching courses, conferences, and professional development sessions.

Away from the pool, Mel has completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), which shape her holistic approach to athlete development. Mel places a strong emphasis on helping athletes find balance, supporting their growth both in and out of the pool, by fostering an environment that values wellbeing, learning, and longevity.
